MEP-3Rs Scientists Pairing Program (EU Parliament)
The Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing-Europe (CAAT-Europe) has announced a new initiative for better visibility of the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, and refinement of laboratory animals used in scientific studies) issues in the Brussels policy arena. This pioneering initiative aims to build close and strong relationships between scientists with their elected national members of the European Parliament (MEPs). This initiative will be supported by the MEPs under the title “MEP - 3Rs scientist pairing scheme.”
MEPs are paired with 3Rs scientists from their respective countries. The MEPs benefit from the scientists’ expertise, which facilitates support for national 3Rs initiatives at the EU level.
The state-of-the-art in 3Rs research and its regulatory implications will be discussed at the national and EU levels, with the aim of enhancing consumer protection and greatlly improving animal welfare.
The first edition took place on January 28th, 2015 under the patronage of MEP Sirpa Pietikainen (Finland). 17 EU nationalities were represented, including: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, Ireland, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Czech republic, Slovenia, Romania, The Netherlands, Poland, Luxembourg, Greece, and Portugal.
From left to right: MEP Daciana Sarbu (Romania) and her assistant, MEP Pavel Poc (Czech Republic), Prof. Ludek Blaha (Recetox, Marzyk University), and CAAT-Europe CEO Mardas Daneshian.
To be announced.
