In Vitro Quantitation of Chemotactic Factors as Indicators of Inflammation and Neovascularization in the Cornea

Salwa A. Elgebaly, PhD
University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, Connecticut

Using cattle eyes obtained from slaughterhouses, Elgebaly will try to develop in vitro tests for the release of chemotactic factors, biological chemicals that play an important role in irritation. She hopes eventually to apply knowledge gained in this research to cultures prepared from human corneas.
