In Vitro Toxicity Testing Using Cryopreserved Human Tissue

Garth Powis, PhD
Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota

Powis will develop a tissue bank as a source of human cells for in vitro toxicology testing. Human tissue left over from surgery will be used to find freezing methods that will leave the cells undamaged and thus suitable for in vitro work after thawing. A successful human tissue bank would speed development of human cell cultures for toxicity testing.
