Synthesis and Secretion of Proteins by Isolated Mouse Hepatocytes as an Indicator of Cellular Injury

David J. Thomas, PhD
The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland

Thomas has used Center funds to develop a mouse liver-cell culture and to study the effects of toxic substances on protein production by cells in this culture. He will improve the culture and develop more sensitive methods of measuring changes in protein production. This work should provide a new knowledge about the liver's response to injury and may lead to tests of liver toxicity and other kinds of toxicity.
