Inflammatory Cells and Target Organ Toxicity

Michael A. Trush, PhD
Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland

Trush has discovered that BHT, an ingredient used in a wide range of foods and cosmetics, may be transformed into a toxic chemical when ingested in combination with another food and cosmetic ingredient, BHA. He will use human cells and tissues to develop an in vitro test for identifying other ingredient combinations that may trigger production of the toxic form of BHT.
