Cultured Mouse Retina Neurons and Photoreceptors: A Bioassay for the Investigation of Neurotoxic Substances

Ruben Adler, MD
The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland

Adler is developing an assay using central nervous system neurons for detecting and analyzing specific neurotoxic effects of chemical compounds. Adler has cultured retinal cells from newborn mice and plans to test compounds known to be toxic to photoreceptors and retinal cells in vivo.
