In Vitro Cytotoxicity Assays with Human Skin Cell Types

Harvey Babich, PhD and Ellen Borenfreund, PhD
Rockefeller University, New York City, New York City

An in vitro model for detecting corrosive chemical irritants to skin is being developed and evaluated by Babich and Borenfreund. The researchers will use cultured human keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblasts exposed alone and in combinations and will use a semi-automated dye-incorporating assay called the neutral red assay in the model.
