Utilization of the Isolated Perfused Procine Skin Flap Preparation as an Alternative Animal Model for the Evaluation of Dermatoxicity

Nancy A. Monteiro, PhD
North Carolina State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, Raleigh, North Carolina

Monteiro is developing a method to evaluate the biochemical and morphological effects of toxic agents on skin. She is using a perfused porcine skin-flap preparation, previously worked up for percutaneous absorption studies, and will compare her results to those from a conventional dermal toxicity test.
