Development of a Characterized Human Proximal Tubule Cell Line

Fredika M. Robertson
Ohio State University, Ohio

Dr. Robertson is investigating the unknown role of the most prevalent cellular component of the skin, the keratinocyte, in the skin's inflammatory and immunoreactive responses, which are the hallmarks of contact allergy. Characterizing the functional activity of the keratinocyte is important to understanding the body's first line of defense against chemical and mechanical insult. Dr. Robertson's work may lead directly to a useful in vitro model for evaluation of contact allergens.
