The Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing is an academic center affiliated with the Division of Toxicological Sciences in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.

AWIC Resource CDs

The Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) is mandated by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) to provide information for improved animal care and use in research, testing, teaching, and exhibition. It is part of the National Agricultural Library under the United States Department of Agriculture. These CD images are intended to provide resources to researchers in four areas: Environmental Enrichment, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs), Literature Search, and Animals in Research.

Each disc image is provided in a ZIP file. The ZIP file contains the ISO image which can be burned to CD. Instructions are below for Windows and Mac OS X.

Burning the ISO Files

Windows
1. Unzip the archive to a folder you will remember.
2. If your CD Burner or computer came with software to burn CDs, refer to the software's manual to burn these CD images (ISO files)
3. If not, you can download Infra Recorder (a free CD burning utility for Windows). The Infra Recorder site is here, and the download page is here.
  1. Install Infra Recorder
  2. Start the program either by double-clicking the desktop icon or clicking the program's icon in the Start Menu.
  3. From the Actions menu, choose Burn Image...
  4. Navigate to the folder you extracted the .iso file into, click the .iso file, and click Open
  5. Verify the settings in this window (the default settings are usually fine) and click OK.
  6. Burning will now start, and after it is done, you can place the disc in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD drive.
Mac OS X
1. Extract the contents of the archive to a folder you will remember.
2. Start Disk Utility by going to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
3. From the Image menu, choose Burn (Command-B).
4. Navigate to the folder you extracted the ISO file into and click Burn.
